Here’s the first piece of my Treasure Island series. It needs some minor tweaking, but I’ve been staring at it for so long I think I’m going to set it aside and move forward to the next one. I love painting pirates!

Skeleton Crew

Speaking of reference, I found this cool skeleton at the party store. I just need to fashion him a jacket. He’s smiling now but what he doesn’t know is that I’m going to have to break his arms and fingers for the photo shoot!!

Thumbs Up!

Finished my first round of thumbnails for smArt School. I’m illustrating scenes from Treasure Island while looking at some of the old “Golden Age” illustrators like Howard Pyle, N.C. Wyeth and Mead Schaeffer. Hopefully I’ll get more than one piece out of these. Next step: shoot some photo reference and create a final pencil drawing.
