This project started out as simple pencil drawings in my sketchbook. I wanted to make some whimsical vehicle designs based on fire trucks, both vintage and futuristic. I based my designs on reference photos of real fire trucks, but changed the proportions and added other details from imagination.
I took one of these sketches and brought it into Photoshop to finish. I scanned my pencil drawing and did a grayscale rendering on top of it, changing things and adding details. As I was working, a story emerged. It was near the holidays and I envisioned these little polar bears working near Santa’s village at the north pole. They have gone out hunting a Christmas tree for their station. The reference photos I collected also helped me render the shiny chrome bits and reflections.
