Here is another architectural study of a downtown Winston-Salem scene. For this image, I took some reference photos on location and then created a grid drawing of it in pencil. Then I scanned the drawing into my computer and started painting over it in Photoshop.
The photo this is based on was taken on a rainy day, and the overall values are very tight and muted, except for the traffic light poles and glow from the lights. To make the image more interesting, I added a lone walker, which was based on another reference photo I took of myself. He is silhouetted against the traffic light glow which I exaggerated for effect.
This image won a Certificate of Merit from the Society of Illustrators Of Los Angeles, and was included in their 57th annual Illustration West Exhibition in April of 2019.
